How to Incorporate BYF Resources into Your Classroom

One of Build Your Future’s goals is to equip instructors and educators with the knowledge and resources to help guide their students to pursue a career in construction.

You may have seen some of our free downloadables, blogs and other materials, but what is the best way to incorporate all of these resources into your semester of teaching? Check out this guide to bring BYF into your classroom.

Use the Construction Careers Lesson Plan

Build Your Future has developed a free downloadable lesson plan and resources for instructors in middle and high school classrooms.

This lesson plan includes discussion questions, an “Intro to Construction Careers” video with activity questions, a Kahoot! quiz and additional career exploration resources. This easy-to-follow lesson plan is a great way to introduce students to opportunities in the construction industry

Career Exploration on the BYF Website

In addition to the ones shared in the lesson plan, there are many additional free and interactive career exploration resources on the Build Your Future website.

Some of the resources include:

Build your own assignments around the information presented on the website, or have the students do some independent browsing and discovery.

Decorate Your Classroom

Does your classroom or workshop need a fresh look?

BYF has many different posters, flyers and other decorative pieces just for instructors like you to use in your classroom. In addition to adding some pop, color and visual intrigue to the learning space, these decorations also highlight careers in construction and can encourage your students to consider the trades.

Purchase our posters from our Shop, or download and print them  from our Downloads page.

Share Scholarship Opportunities with Students

Like other educational pathways, there are scholarship opportunities and financial aid for postsecondary craft training. These opportunities are valuable for high school seniors and others preparing to continue their construction education.

The BYF Scholarships page highlights several scholarship opportunities throughout the year. Use this page to help your students apply for great scholarships.

Celebrate Careers in Construction Month

Did you know October is Careers in Construction Month?

This special time of year is a great opportunity to showcase careers in the skilled construction trades to your students. It’s also the perfect opportunity to network within your community and build beneficial relationships with local companies and construction industry representatives.

There are lots of ways to participate in Careers in Construction Month. You can bring craft professionals into your classroom as guest speakers to talk about their experience. Arrange for a field trip to take your students to a real construction project site. And of course, make sure to join in on the discussion on social media by using the hashtag #CICM.

Help Students Enter the I BUILT THIS! Contest
